U.S. Customary Units of Length and Weight

In this lesson, students begin to learn about the U. S. Customary System of measurement. They learn the definition of three units of length: the inch, the foot, and the yard. A foot is equal to 12 inches. A yard is equal to 3 feet.

They also learn the definition of two units of weight: the ounce and the pound. A pound is equal to 16 ounces.


Measures of Capacity

In this lesson, students learn the definition of five measures of liquid capacity: 1) the fluid ounce, 2) the cup, 3) the pint, 4) the quart, and 5) the gallon. A cup is equal to 8 fluid ounces. A pint is equal to 2 cups. A quart is equal to two pints. A gallon is equal to four quarts.
