Program Interface

For the 2015-2016 school year, many program interface options for both students and educators are updated to provide more information and a cleaner program look.

What’s Different for Students?

Upon logging into iPASS in 2015-2016, returning students will notice changes to the screen. Below is an example iPASS menu screen for a student who advanced midway through Unit M.

interface01

The iPASS menu screen displays all Units to the end of a student’s enrolled grade level, as a visual goal to complete all content in their grade level.

Also on the iPASS menu screen is access to the Sticker Book. The Sticker Book displays all trophies earned, and stickers collected, and allows student to select stickers or trophies to display on their screen.

The learning interface also differs from previous years:

interface02

The learning interface has been updated to be cleaner and less cluttered, so students can focus more on the content they are currently working in.

On the side of the screen, the keypad has been minimized to allow room for sticker display. The keypad sometimes displays additional characters specific to the question, shown in orange above.

For example, in the Lesson above, the student is working in Comparing Numbers 21-100, so the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) signs are necessary to complete the lesson, but operands (such as +, -, etc.) are not necessary. This allows for less confusion for students while working through elements in the program and minimizes the screen area the student needs to focus on.

As in the past, the calculator is only active for certain lessons. When instructionally appropriate, the interface_calcIcon is clicked.

At the top of the screen, the information bar has also changed.

interface03

At the very top, the name of the current Lesson the student is currently working on displays in grey text (in the example above “Circumference of a Circle”).

The current element displays below the lesson name to the left. These include Unit Challenge, Unit Mastery, Chapter Challenge, Chapter Mastery, Lesson Challenge Quiz, Lesson Instruction, Lesson Practice, Lesson Mixed Practice, Chapter Practice, Focused Review, and Review.

The student’s name displays to the right. This helps educators to easily verify the student is logged into their account.

On the far right is the student’s Point total. As the student advances in the program, the Points total will increase to reflect their location in the program. This number is not affected by students using their Coins and Gems to collect stickers, and does not decrease. It is comparable between students and can be used to set student and class goals.

On the left is the Inactivity Timer. This is not a timer for the question. . Rather, it ensures students are active in the program. After counting down to zero, the screen displays bright red and a student has 30 seconds to click anywhere on the screen to return to the program. If there is no action in 30 seconds, the program closes, and the student must log back into the program.

Finally, the iPASS icon in the top left, when clicked, returns the student to the iPASS menu screen. From there, the student can return to iPASS, or go back to the iLearn Hub to open Reports, the Store, or a different program.

What’s Different for Teachers and Admins?

For teachers and admins, the above changes also apply. The iPASS menu screen will update the Units completed when a teacher a specific location, since teachers and admins do not have to progress sequentially through the program like students do.

Furthermore, the Test Review feature is now accessed differently than in previous year. To access Test Review, teachers click interface_checkIcon in the top right to access Test Review for that program.

interface04

Teachers then select a class then a student to view any test the student has completed (in the program the teacher has selected).

interface05

Clicking on a row (each row is a single test) opens Test Review for that test, and the teacher can review all questions in that test.
