District iKnow Assignment

For 2014-2015, iLearn introduces a new way to build and assign iKnow Math assessments. District administrators can now assign Universal Screening assessments, Benchmark assessments, and Progress Monitoring assessments to any and all students in all schools.
Allowing district administrators to build and assign assessments in iKnow provides several key benefits for ease of use, reports, and planning and implementation!

Ease of Use

With the introduction of district iKnow access, we’ve made it easier to assign and report Screeners and Benchmarks across an entire district. Below are the steps to building any assessment:
  1. Log into the iLearn Hub (www.iLearn.com/login) and click “Management” (Learning Management System).
  2. Click “Tools” at the top and select “iKnow Manager.”
  3. Click the “Create New Assessment” button on the left.
  4. Select the test type.
  5. Assign students.
  6. Set the expiration date.
  7. Name the assessment.
  8. Click “Save.”

It’s that easy. District administrators can create an assessment and assign to all students in a district, or just students in select grades, in less than 5 minutes.

Reports

With district administrators now building and assigning assessments, the reports are simplified as there is only one Benchmark for example, across the entire district rather than one for each school. Schools and districts now have more concise reports of Benchmark and Universal Screening results.

Planning and Implementation

Planning a district wide administration of any assessment can be a challenge. iKnow helps relieve the burden with quick setup and assignment across an entire district in less than five minutes. As a result, school administrators and teachers can focus on completing the assessment by the due date, or easily editing the assessment as needed.

Who Can Edit a District Admin Assigned Assessment and What Can Be Edited?

In 2014-2015, district administrators can create and assign iKnow assessments quickly and easily to students in a district. However, students in some schools or classes may require small adjustments to accommodate their special cases.

When a district administrator creates either a Universal Screening, Benchmark, or Progress Monitoring (we recommend the teacher level for Progress Monitoring) they can easily assign it to all students in the district or a select group of students, as well as determine the due date and time for the assessment.

Some schools or teachers may need to extend the due date for some or all students who were assigned by the district. This is easily accomplished by any administrator at the district or school level, or by the students’ teacher(s). This adds flexibility for individual school, teacher, and student needs. We recommend that any edits made by a school administrator or teacher be approved by the district administrator to ensure consistency and prevent confusion.

Do’s and Don’ts With Tests

Below are some do’s and don’ts of which you should be aware.
  1. Do use district-assigned tests when assessing all students’ proficiencies. By doing so, the reports are streamlined to report students across the entire school and district at once. District reports are accessed by district administrators, and at each school by school administrators, teachers, and even students.
  2. Do add extra time on the due date when assigning at the district level. In a perfect world, no student would miss class and all students would complete assessments on or before the due date. By adding extra time, you can help ensure all students finish before it expires. If a student does miss the expiration date, you can easily edit the assessment to extend the time for that student.
  3. Do name the assessment with a meaningful description. If you are planning to assign several Benchmark assessments throughout the year, use names such as “Benchmark 1 – August 2014” or “1st Benchmark 2014-2015.” These clearly describe differences between Benchmarks.
  4. Don’t deselect (unassign) students from the assessment in order to add new students to the assessment. To add new students to an assessment that is already assigned to other students, just check the box next to the new students and click “Save.”
  5. Don’t create multiple assessments for one test. The beauty of iKnow is its ease of use. Whether Universal Screener or Benchmark, the test is delivered to each student based on their enrolled grade level. The Benchmark will deliver to a 7th grader the 7th grade level test, and to a 4th grader the 4th grade level test. The Universal Screener will deliver a series of tests starting one grade below the enrolled grade level, so an 8th grader starts with a 7th grade level test followed by tests at 6th, 5th 4th, etc. in sequence down to grade one.
