MyQ

What is MyQ?

MyQ is an instructional application giving you, the teacher or school administrator the ability to create and assign groups of iLearn content (queues) to a student, multiple students, or all students in a class or multiple classes.

Who Can Access MyQ?

If your school or district purchased an iLearn plan with MyQ, students, teachers, and school administrators can access MyQ. On the iLearn Hub after logging in at www.ilearn.com/login, all active iLearn programs display in color.

iLearn Hub for Teachers

How Students Access MyQ

Log into www.ilearn.com/login and click MyQ hub icon above "MyQ." Students click MyQ and select any active queues assigned to them.

iLearn Hub for Students

How MyQ Works – School Administrators

With MyQ, teachers and school administrators can build groups of iLearn content, and assign to any of their students. School administrators can assign queues for all students in a school, or a select group of students. Teachers can assign queues for all students in their classes, or a select group of students in those classes. Both school administrators and teachers have the same functionality and access to the same iLearn content when building queues.

How to Build a MyQ Queue

To build a queue, log in at www.ilearn.com/login with a school administrator login.

iLearn Hub for Teachers

From the iLearn Hub, click LMS hub icon next to “Management (LMS).”

LMS MyQ Selection

In the top right, click “Tools” and then select “MyQ Manager.”

MyQ Manager Home Screen

Before you create the first MyQ queue, the list will be empty as above. On the left are three options: Create Queue, Queue Details, and Queue Library.

  • Create Queue – Build a new queue.
  • Queue Details – View who is assigned to a queue, review content included in a queue, edit a queue, assign/unassign students, or delete a queue.
  • Queue Library – Copy an existing queue, to edit.

At the top are two tabs: Active Queues and Expired Queues.

  • Active Queues – displays all queues for which the due date has not yet passed
  • Expired Queues – displays all queues for which the due date has already passed

To create a new queue, click Create Queue Button above “Create Queue” and select either Homework/Classwork or iLearn Learning Progression (Learning Progressions are only available to users of the Common Core State Standards).

MyQ Q Type Dialog Box

  • Homework/Classwork – build a queue with either chapters or lessons of any iLearn content.
  • iLearn Learning Progression – build a queue with selected chapters addressing Learning Progressions across multiple grade levels. An iLearn Learning Progression is a preselected queue that can be assigned in MyQ, consisting of a string of iLearn chapters in sequence from the lowest grade level to highest. We call them “Intelligent” Learning Progressions since MyQ retains much of the mastery-based requirements of iPASS, and also allows students to skip over lessons and chapters that they already know.

Build a Homework/Classwork Queue

Click Homework/Classwork Button to launch the queue builder.

MyQ Homework Classwork Creation 1

Customize your queue as follows:

  1. Name the Queue – in the top left, enter a name. We suggest a unique and highly descriptive name so you and your students can easily identify the queue for completion and reporting.

  2. Set a Due Date – to the right is “Default Due Date.” Click the calendar icon and select the day the queue should be completed by all students, and then select a time for the queue to expire that day. The queue will expire at that time (Eastern) on that day.

  3. Select an Access Order – click “Select an access order” next to the due date. Select either a Fixed Order Queue or an Any Order Queue
    • Fixed Order (Recommended) – students must complete the elements in the order specified in the queue. Students cannot change their location to other elements in the queue. Once an element is completed, students cannot reenter that element.
    • Any Order – students can select and enter any element in the queue at any time. Once an element is completed, students cannot reenter that element.

  4. Add Content to the Queue – Add either chapters or lessons, but not both in the same queue. A queue cannot mix chapters and lessons.
    • Chapter queues (Recommended) – individual chapters of iLearn content. Since Chapters include Challenge and Mastery Tests (in addition to the Challenge Quizzes for the Lessons within each Chapter), assigning Chapters is recommended over Lessons. This is because Chapters include more complete blocks of related content than Lessons, and pre- and post- testing is included in each Chapter. You cannot deselect any Lesson or elements therein from a chapter.
    • Lesson queues – individual lessons of iLearn content. Each lesson includes the following elements: Lesson Challenge Quiz, Lesson Instruction, and Lesson Practice. If you wish to limit access to include only specific elements (such as just Lesson Practice), you can. Just add the lesson to the box on the right, expand the lesson by clicking the arrow and deselect other elements.

  5. Add content to the queue by clicking a Chapter or Lesson title, and then clicking Add Item to Queue Create Queue Button or just double-click the Chapter to send it to the right.

MyQ Homework Classwork Creation 2

Add multiple Chapters or Lessons to the queue by selecting each title and clicking the arrow (or double-clicking), or select a group of Chapters or Lessons by clicking a title, holding “shift” on your keyboard, and then clicking another title. Exercise care in assigning Chapters and Lessons in the proper order. For example, below 01.A.01 should be assigned to come before (above in the Queue box on the right) 0.1.A.06.

MyQ Homework Classwork Creation 3

To highlight the group of Chapters shown above, click “Numbers 0-10.” Then, press and hold “Shift” on your keyboard. Then, click “Addition Families 0-10.” This selects all Chapters from Numbers 0-10 through Addition Families 0-10. You can then click the orange, arrow button to add to the queue.

Once all content is added to the right, the queue is named, a due date and time set, and an access order selected click Save Queue Button at the bottom right.

A confirmation message lets you know the queue has been saved, and asks whether you would like to add students to the queue. Click Yes to assign students to the queue, or click No to assign students to the queue later (students will not have access to the queue until it is assigned to them).

MyQ Creation Confirm Dialog Box

Assigning students to a queue is simple. If you clicked Yes above, a list will display all students in the school (as shown below for a school administrator).

MyQ Creation Student Assignments

Click “Select All” to assign all students to a queue, or click the checkbox next to each student’s name to assign. The default due date will apply the selected due date to all students in the queue. You can also individualize a due date for each student by clicking the calendar to the right of a student’s due date. After assigning students, click Save Queue Button.

Editing a Queue

Once a queue is saved, three types of edits can be made:

  1. Edit Queue – add/remove content, change access order, due date/time. If a queue originally included Chapters, only Chapters can be added. If it originally included Lessons, only Lessons can be added.
  2. Assign/Unassign – add students to or remove from the queue.
  3. Delete Queue – permanently delete the queue. Deleting a queue removes all progress students made in the queue, and removes all data for the queue from the reports.

On the MyQ manager home screen click a queue to edit.

MyQ Manager Homescreen

Click Queue Details Button to view “Queue Details” (you can also double click the queue from the list).

MyQ Queue Details Screen

To add or remove content, click Edit Queue Button above “edit Queue.” This launches the queue builder:

In the queue builder you can add or remove content, change the due date and time, change the access order, or change the queue name. If the queue was originally built with Chapters rather than Lessons, only Chapters can be added to the queue. The same goes for Lessons. A queue must be all Chapters or all Lessons. After making changes, click Save Queue Button at the bottom of the screen.

A confirmation message indicates the queue was saved, and asks if the students assigned also need to be updated. Click Yes if students should be added to or removed from the queue, or click No to update the new content available to students. There’s no need to reassign the queue to students. Those previously assigned will receive the newly edited queue.

To add or remove students, from the MyQ manager click the queue.

Students removed from a queue will no longer see the queue when they access MyQ. If removed, any activity by students in the queue will be lost. Only remove students who do not need to work in that queue. Even if you add students to the queue, the message above will display. However activity is only lost when students are removed. To remove access by a student but keep the recorded data, change the due date for the student(s) so the queue is expired.

To delete a queue, from the MyQ manager click the queue.

MyQ Manager Homescreen Click Queue Details Button above “Queue Details” to view the details of that queue (you can also double click the queue from the list).

MyQ Queue Details Screen

Click Delete Queue Button above “delete Queue.” The following message will appear:

MyQ Unassign Warning Message

Click Yes to permanently delete the queue, or No to cancel. Once a queue is deleted, the queue itself and any student activity in the queue cannot be retrieved.

When a queue is created by a school administrator, the queue also appears in all teachers’ MyQ managers. Teachers cannot edit the content of the queue, but they can add and remove their students.

Students see their assignments to complete under the Active tab. Queues are displayed in the order they were assigned from the earliest assigned at the top to the most recently assigned at the bottom.

Queues assigned by teachers display “Teacher” below the school name:

Single Queue Student View

If the access of the queue is Fixed Order, the student sees both the blue play button and an orange button; if the access order of the queue was set to “Any Order,” the student sees only the orange button.

Clicking the blue play button launches the first element in the sequence of the queue. If it is a Chapter queue, the first element will be a Chapter Challenge Test for the first chapter in the queue. If it is a queue of Lessons, the first element is a Lesson Challenge Quiz, but could also be Lesson Instruction or Lesson Practice if some elements in the lesson were removed when the queue was made. In a Fixed Order queue, the program remembers the location of the student so clicking the blue play button returns them to their last location.

Fixed Order Queue List

In a Fixed Order queue a student can click the orange button to scroll through the elements in the queue, but can only click the blue play button for the appropriate element (next in the sequence) in the queue. In a Fixed Order queue, the program limits student access to the sequence identified when the queue was made.

Any Order Queue List

In an Any Order queue, a student can click the orange button to scroll through all elements in the queue, but can also click the blue play button to enter any element in the queue.

The student clicks a blue play button and enters the selected element shown in the example below.

MyQ LP Example

When the student reaches the end of the element, it is marked complete.

MyQ CC Complete Queue List

The student is returned to the list of elements in the queue. For the element completed, the student will see a description in the “Status” column. In the case above, the student achieved a passing score on the Chapter Challenge Test, which exempts (skips them over) all lessons in that chapter.

MyQ CC Complete Queue List scrolled down

The student can scroll down and begin the next available element in the queue, in the case above the Chapter Challenge Test for the second chapter in the queue.

Students can click the Inactive tab at the top to review their Completed and Expired queues. They can no longer access these queues.

Program Interface

It is important to know what all of the buttons in the MyQ program do, and what to expect when students are working in MyQ.

At the top of the screen are these four buttons: Option buttons

Option buttons

Change Program: Returns the student to the iLearn Hub.

Reports button

Reports: Takes the student to view individual student reports.

Settings button

Settings: Allows the student to move the keypad to the left or right.

Logout Button

Logout: Logs the student out of all iLearn. The student should log out using this button rather than closing the browser.

The program interface provides important information for both the student and the teacher.

MyQ Top Bar

MyQ Lesson Title Bar

The top bar reading “Missing Addend” is the title of the student’s current Lesson.

MyQ Homepage Button

The logo on the left identifies the program so the teacher can easily see it, and is a button to return to the MyQ homepage.

MyQ Top Panel 2

This section displays the student name (allowing the teacher to verify the student is not logged in as someone else), navigation buttons, and the current activity. The navigation buttons for students are only active during Lesson Instruction. Students can click iPass Repeat Button to replay a page, iPass Pause Button to pause (if turned on by school administrators), iPass Left Button navigate to a previous page of instruction, or iPass Right Button navigate to the furthest page of instruction the student reached (students cannot skip pages of instruction, but can use the left facing arrow to review previous pages, and then use the right facing arrow to navigate back to the furthest page reached).

MyQ Location and Page # Bar

This section shows the student’s location in MyQ. Above, the student is working in E.3.1, which is Unit E, Chapter 3, Lesson 1. We also know from above, the student is in Lesson Challenge. “Page” shows the current page in the element, and the Question Status shows the number of questions the student has answered correctly. In this case, the student is on the third page, and has one correct answer. The first bar is green indicating a correct answer, while the second is dark blue indicating it was not answered correctly. The third question has not been entered or evaluated.

MyQ Time Bar

In activities where the background is blue such as Lesson Instruction, Lesson Practice, Lesson Mixed Practice, Chapter Practice, Focused Review, and Cumulative Review the Time indicator does not represent the amount of time the student has left in the activity. Rather, the Time indicator is an activity timer to make sure the student is currently active and has not walked away from the computer. When the time counts down to zero the screen will turn red, shown below:

MyQ Logout Warning

When the screen turns red the student must click anywhere on screen within 30 seconds to return to the same page. If there is no interaction in 30 seconds, they are logged out as indicated above.

In Tests (Unit Challenge and Mastery and Chapter Challenge and Mastery – when the background is green) the Time indicator does represent the amount of time remaining in the test. All tests have a time limit of 120 minutes which is ample for any test in the program.

MyQ Side Bar

The keypad is the on-screen tool for entering answers. Students may use the mouse to click the appropriate buttons to enter an answer. They can also use the computer’s keyboard to answer questions. The keypad is not active in Lesson Instruction where attention is focused on multimedia presentations.

Some lessons require students to enter operands, variables, and/or symbols. Orange buttons will display dynamically, i.e. when needed, to accommodate the characters needed to answer.

The calculator is available in only some lessons where instructionally appropriate.

Do’s and Don’ts (Best Practices) with MyQ

  1. Do use MyQ for all students, a select group of students, or an individual student. The number of queues you can build are practically limitless. Build queues for individual students or select groups to give them instruction and practice on critical topics. Or, build queues for all students to supplement classroom instruction.
  2. Do use iLearn Learning Progressions (Common Core only). They automatically group critical concepts such as fractions across grade level, so students can learn what they need in sequence, from the lowest level to the highest.
  3. Do build lesson queues when you want to assign smaller, specific portions of content. This might include one Lesson, or even one Lesson Instruction or one Lesson Practice. Lesson queues allow you to deselect the Lesson Challenge Quiz, Lesson Instruction, or Lesson Practice, whereas Chapter queues do not. If you want your students to view just the Lesson Instruction(s), or complete just Lesson Practice(s), assign Lesson queues to target the content very specifically.
  4. Do build Chapter queues when you want pre- and post-tests. Chapter queues automatically include a Challenge Test at the beginning and a Mastery Test at the end of each Chapter. This allows you to view and document a student’s progress in a chapter or across Chapters.
  5. Do set the access order wisely. Fixed Order access (recommended) automatically guides the student to complete the Challenge Tests, Lesson Instruction, Lesson Practice, Mastery Tests, etc. in order. Fixed Order access also skips ahead automatically when they pass the Chapter Challenge Tests and Lesson Challenge Quizzes. Any Order access allows students to select any element at any time. While providing flexibility, it removes many of requirements that make MyQ (and iPASS) effective.
  6. Do make a copy of a queue when you want to add additional content for some students, but not all students. Some students in your class may be ahead or behind. MyQ allows you to individualize queues for a student, or groups of students. You can make a queue for the entire class, and then copy the queue to add or remove content for some students.
  7. Don't assign students to a queue if you want to prevent them from accessing it. When a student is assigned to a queue they can access that queue through the expiration date. If you wish, prevent this by building the queue(s) but not assigning it until the appropriate time.
  8. Don't edit a queue while students are currently working in that queue. Any changes will not take effect until after the student logs out and logs back in.
  9. Don't unassign (uncheck the box) existing students when assigning new students to a queue. Assigning new students is as simple as checking the box next to a student’s name and clicking save. If you unassign (uncheck the box) and save the queue, the student(s) will no longer be assigned to the queue, and any work completed in that queue will be lost.
  10. Do monitor the reports. If you have assigned multiple queues make sure students are working on the correct queues, and when you want. Reports for MyQ easily allow you to see where students are active today, this week, etc.

Suggestions of Use

Below are some suggestions on how to optimize MyQ in conjunction with other iLearn programs, or by itself.

General Usage Tips

With MyQ, teachers and school administrators can build and assign queues of iLearn content, and students can only access what is assigned to them.

iLearn Learning Progressions allow you to assign Fractions or other progressions, starting at the lowest grades and moving up to the highest grade sequentially. For example assigning a 6th grader the Learning Progression on Fractions starts at 3rd grade fractions, moves up to 4th grade fractions, and ends in 5th grade fractions. Assigning a Learning Progression in a Fixed Order is like assigning a mini-course in iPASS that covers just Fractions!

Building Chapter queues automatically includes pre- and post-tests which helps track students’ learning in a chapter. If you assign a Chapter queue in a Fixed Order, think of it as assigning a mini-course in iPASS that covers only the Chapters you choose!

Building Lesson queues allows you to get very specific in your assignment. By deselecting elements in a Lesson, you can even assign just the Lesson Instruction, or just the Lesson Practice, for any string of Lessons you select for the queue.

We suggest using MyQ in ways that best benefits your students. Build a queue for all students to supplement your classroom instruction by assigning parallel lessons or chapters. For a student struggling on a specific topic, build a queue for that student to master some critical prerequisites. Instruct in class and assign practice, or flip it and assign instruction and work with students to complete practice in class.

We suggest monitoring the reports on a daily basis. If your school or district purchased all iLearn programs (MyQ, vBook, iPASS, iKnow, and ThinkFast!) your students can access any program. Monitor the reports while students are working to ensure that they are logged in and on-task.

In Conjunction with Other iLearn Programs

Depending on what your school or district purchased, students could have access to a number of different programs; some students may only have vBook, and some may have all programs. Each program can be used independently, or in conjunction with another specific program. It’s always best to coordinate at the school level to make the best of instructional time.

MyQ and All Other Programs

The five programs and their basic functionality are:

  • vBook – a student-choice instructional program giving access to any content at any time.
  • iPASS – a mastery-based instructional program that delivers only the content needed, starting with the earliest knowledge gap. Students proceed sequentially to higher content, based on skipping content by passing Challenge (Pre) Tests, and by passing Mastery (Post) Tests, with the program making content delivery decisions based on student performance.
  • MyQ – a teacher-controlled instructional program in which teachers assign queues of grouped content. Students can only access the content the teacher assigns, and only as assigned, in a Fixed Order or Any Order.
  • iKnow – a teacher-controlled assessment program allowing teachers to assign tests. Students can only access the tests assigned, which include benchmark, universal screener, and progress monitoring tests.
  • ThinkFast! – a mastery-based instructional program for fluency on basic math facts that delivers only the content a student needs. Students proceed sequentially, with the program making content delivery decisions based on student performance.

iLearn offers programs with content controlled by you the teacher, or the student, or the computer. We suggest understanding each program and planning a strategy to meet your goals. However, here are some suggestions on how to get started:

  1. Start the school year off with a Universal Screening assessment in iKnow. This will allow you to assess the strengths and weaknesses of each student at prior grade levels.
  2. Use iPASS with at-risk students, with advanced students, or ALL students to address critical needs below grade level, solidify grade level competence, and provide opportunities grade level
  3. Use MyQ and/or vBook to assign grade level content to all students. Use vBook for verbal or written assignments, or MyQ to control access to the content.
  4. Use ThinkFast! for any and all students who need extra fluency practice, or have difficulty passing the fluency sections in iPASS.
