What is iLearn?

iLearn is a suite of education tools designed to help teachers teach and students learn math. iLearn can include several programs that allow access to iLearn content in varying ways. The programs are: iPASS, MyQ, iKnow, vBook, and ThinkFast!.

iLearn Programs:

iPASS is iLearn’s flagship program. iPASS is a computer controlled program that guides students through only the content needed. Students prove mastery before advancing in the program, and can skip over any material they already know. Since you don’t have to micro-manage students, you can spend more one-on-one time with the students that need it, when they need it.

As a teacher, you can use iPASS with any student at any level, whether special ed., intensive intervention, at-risk, grade-level or gifted. iPASS covers math from grade one to pre-calculus.

MyQ gives the teacher complete control over the material students can access. A teacher can quickly and easily assign Classwork/Homework queues to students on either chapters or lessons, or Learning Progressions which are chapters on specific topics like Functions, across multiple grade levels.

You can build a queue for all students in your class, or build individualized queues for specific students. You can also assign content based on results from iKnow Math assessment. Assign any content to any student at any time.

iKnow Math gives the teacher the ability to assign Universal Screeners, Benchmarks/Grade Level Tests, and Progress Monitoring tests whenever needed. Assign tests to all students, a specific class, or specific students at any time.

iKnow covers all content in iLearn, so you can easily assign any grade level test to any student. On average, each test has ~20 questions, and the average completion time of each test is less than 15 minutes. As with nearly all iLearn content, test questions are user generated answers, rather than multiple-choice.

vBook allows students to select and learn any iLearn content, from first grade to pre-calculus. When using vBook, students can complete any topic test, topic practice, lesson instruction, or lesson practice.

Of course you, the teacher, can assign vBook content just like a regular book, as part of your classroom instruction, homework, flipped learning, and more. Verbally assign students to specific topics or lessons, or have students use vBook to get help on earlier concepts they need to succeed at grade level. You can still track activity, pre- and post-tests with vBook as well.

ThinkFast! is computer controlled like iPASS. It helps students develop fluency with the basic math facts, while developing conceptual understanding. It also teaches only what the student needs, while advancing from addition and subtraction through multiplication and division.

As a teacher, have your students use ThinkFast! daily to build mastery in basic math facts. Many use it as a warm-up before using iPASS.

iLearn Reports:

Program-specific reports allow you to easily monitor students and intervene when appropriate. Progress reports, attendance and activity reports let you quickly see which students are applying themselves, which ones need encouragement, and which may need your help.

Attendance reports show you how many minutes each student is spending in any program on any day. See who is working on the tasks assigned and their time on task. These reports display attendance data for the month and are available for all or individual students.

Activity reports show detailed metrics on a student’s progress over customizable data ranges. This helps you verify a satisfactory rate of progress and when a student may be struggling.

Progress reports display student progress in iPASS and tracks a student’s progress from beginning to end.

iLearn offers over 60 different and customizable reports to give educators the right information to manage students effectively.

Suggestions on Use:

Our mission at iLearn is to provide a mult-faceted learning environment for teachers and students. From student-selected vBook to teacher assigned MyQ, to computer optimized iPASS and ThinkFast!, we’re confident you’ll find many ways to implement iLearn successfully in your classroom. It’s not necessary for you to implement iLearn exactly as suggested below, but it may give you some new ideas.

vBook is a flexible access program, meaning students can select and learn any topic or lesson. Reports allow you to see exactly what a student is learning. Verbally assigning specific topics or lessons to students is similar to a textbook, but interactive and with automated record keeping. Give students a specific lesson or lessons, and monitor the reports to verify completion. Assign topics or lessons based on your lesson planning, or for quick instruction/practice on any subject as needed.

MyQ enables a combination of teacher control, and computer-optimized content. Students see only the specific chapters or lessons you assign in a “queue,” and the student must complete all needed elements of a queue. A teacher can build a queue for an entire class that fits into the lesson schedule, or that allows students to master critical topics from previous grade levels, like fractions, or that gives a student more practice on a specific subject. With MyQ, teachers can do this quickly and easily, and students can start the queue the moment it’s assigned to them.

iPASS is great for all students from at-risk to advanced. iPASS delivers just the content needed to each student individually. Use iPASS to help students catch up to grade level, learn grade level content, or advance beyond grade level. iPASS is computer optimized and based on student performance, allowing you the teacher to work with students on a one-to-one basis.

iKnow Math allows you to assign Universal Screeners, Benchmark/Grade Level tests, and Progress Monitoring tests. Assigning a Universal Screener at the beginning of the year allows teachers, administrators, and parents to see a student’s gaps from their grade level down to first grade. Benchmark or Grade Level tests assigned three to four times throughout the school year allow you to monitor how well a student is progressing at grade level throughout the year. Use Progress Monitoring to assign any grade level test to any student every few weeks, and document progress at the level of learning, back to grade level.

ThinkFast! engages the student to develop fluency in addition/subtraction and multiplication/division. For students struggling with basic facts or using their fingers to add and subtract, schedule 10 to 20 minutes daily for ThinkFast! to build fluency. ThinkFast! is always better with an external mouse and keyboard for entering answers.
